Description
Natural Black #1 is a soft off-black with a warm brown reflect, equivalent to US colour #1B on the American extension ring. Indoors it reads as black; in daylight and at the ends a subtle brown depth comes through, the way most naturally dark hair looks. Supplied as 20 tapes per pack in eight lengths from 14" to 28", in 100% virgin Slavic hair with the cuticle intact and aligned.

Who this shade matches
Order #1 if your hair looks black indoors but shows a hint of brown in sunlight or at the ends. Off-black is the most common natural black, far more common than a true jet black, and #1B is the standard match for it. It also suits hair coloured with a soft black or a darkest brown that has relaxed slightly between appointments.
The most common ordering mistake is choosing by how hair looks indoors. If your hair stays blue-black even in direct sun, it is jet black (US #1), and a #1B extension will show as a warmer, slightly lighter panel at the ends. To check, photograph your hair outdoors in shade, not indoors, and send it to us on WhatsApp before ordering.
Wear and care
Move-ups at 6 to 8 weeks, heat under 450 °F (230 °C) with a protectant.
- Toning: none needed. Because #1 is uncoloured, it holds its depth on its own.
- Shine: a light, silicone-free serum on the lengths keeps the brown reflect glossy rather than dull.
- Conditioner and oils: keep them away from the tape tabs; everything below the bond is fine.
Questions about Natural Black #1
Is #1B the same as #1?
No. US #1 is jet black with a cool, blue-black depth. US #1B is off-black with a soft brown base. They are separate shades and do not blend into each other invisibly.
Why is Violet Beauty #1 listed as US #1B?
The European colour system used by Violet Beauty groups black shades under #1. American rings split them into #1 (jet) and #1B (off-black). By the American standard, this shade is #1B.
Will black extensions fade?
Virgin dark hair holds its pigment. Fading in dark extensions is normally a symptom of chemically dyed hair losing deposited colour, which does not apply here. The brown reflect you see in sunlight is the natural tone of the hair, not fading.
Can #1 be lifted to a lighter shade later?
We do not recommend it. Lifting extension hair off the head removes the condition you paid for. Order the target shade instead.
