Description

Dark Blonde #7 (or US ##8A Dark Ash Brown) is a cool, soft brown with an ash reflect and no visible red or gold, equivalent to US colour #8A. It reads as a muted, natural brown in any light, the tone many people describe as their "real" colour before highlights. Supplied as 20 tapes per pack in lengths from 14" to 26", in 100% virgin Slavic hair with the cuticle intact and aligned.

Who this shade matches

#7 suits natural light-to-medium brown hair at level 5 to 7 that stays cool or slightly grey-toned in daylight, rather than turning warm. It is the match for hair that looks neither red nor golden in the sun, and for cool or neutral skin tones.

It also works as the root and shadow shade beneath a cool or neutral blonde install. Through the top section, it keeps grown-out regrowth from clashing with lighter ends. It pairs well with Light Beige Blonde #12.4 (US #22) as a highlight, since neither shade carries visible gold.

Check the neighbouring shades before ordering:

  • If your hair turns warm or red-gold in sunlight, Light Chestnut Brown #6 (US #8) is the same depth with a warm reflect.
  • If your hair reads as dark blonde, Beige Blonde #6.10 (US #12) is one step lighter and neutral.

To confirm your match, photograph your hair outdoors in shade and send it to us on WhatsApp.

Wear and care

Move-ups at 6 to 8 weeks, heat under 450 °F (230 °C) with a protectant.

  • Toning: none needed. The ash reflect is the hair's own pigment, so there is no deposited tone to fade.
  • Oils: avoid heavy oils on the mid-lengths. They flatten the ash cast and make the shade read warmer.
  • If the colour looks dull: mineral build-up from water is the usual cause; a clarifying wash restores it.
  • Conditioner: mid-lengths and ends only, well clear of the tape tabs.

Questions about Dark Ash Brown #7

What is the difference between #8 and #8A?

Depth is the same; the reflect is not. US #8 is a light chestnut brown with a warm red-gold reflect. US #8A is ash, cool and muted, with no red or gold.

Is #8A the same as dirty blonde?

Close, but darker. Dirty blonde usually describes the neutral-to-ash zone between brown and blonde. #8A sits at the brown end of it; Beige Blonde #6.10 (US #12) sits at the blonde end.

Why is Violet Beauty #7 listed as US #8A?

European and American colour rings number shades differently, and American rings mark ash tones with an "A". By the American standard, this shade is #8A Dark Ash Brown.

Can #7 be lifted to blonde later?

We do not recommend it. Lightening extension hair removes the virgin condition you paid for. Order the blonde shade you want instead.
