Description
Chestnut Brown #5 is a warm medium brown with a soft red-gold chestnut reflect, equivalent to US colour #6. Indoors it reads as a rich, even brown; in daylight the chestnut warmth comes forward without tipping into auburn. Supplied as 20 tapes per pack in eight lengths from 14" to 28", in Slavic hair with the cuticle intact and aligned. The hair can be cut, layered and heat-styled like your own.

Who this shade matches
#5 suits natural brunette hair at level 4 to 6 that shows warmth in sunlight, and hair coloured in warm brown or chestnut tones. It flatters warm and olive skin, where the red-gold reflect adds colour to the face.
Check the neighbouring shades before ordering:
- If your brown is deeper and shows no red in sunlight, Chocolate Brown #4 (US #4) is one level darker and warm-neutral.
- If your hair turns golden rather than red-brown in sunlight, Honey Brown #5.9 (US #10) is one level lighter, with a gold reflect.
Chestnut Brown also works as a base for dimension. Add Honey Brown #5.9 at the surface for a subtle warm melt, or Butter Blonde #7.11 (US #16) around the face for a brighter, more visible contrast, with no lightening of your own hair. To confirm your match, photograph your hair outdoors in shade and send it to us on WhatsApp.
How tape-in extensions work
Each tape is a thin weft of hair on a flat adhesive tab. Two tapes are sandwiched around a fine section of your own hair close to the scalp, where they lie flat and are hidden by the hair above. Tape-ins add length and volume across the head with no heat or glue at application, and the tabs are repositioned at each move-up as your hair grows.
We recommend professional installation. Correct section size and placement are what keep tapes comfortable, flat and secure; tapes placed by an untrained hand are the main cause of slipping, tension and breakage.
Wear and care
Move-ups at 6 to 8 weeks, heat under 450 °F (230 °C) with a protectant.
- First 48 hours: do not wash or wet the hair, so the adhesive can set fully.
- Washing: sulfate-free shampoo. Skip violet or blue toning shampoo, which mutes the chestnut reflect.
- If the colour looks dull: mineral build-up from water is the usual cause; a clarifying wash restores the shine.
- Conditioner and oils: mid-lengths and ends only, well clear of the tape tabs.
- Brushing: start at the ends and work upward, holding the hair above the tabs.
Questions about Chestnut Brown #5
Is chestnut brown the same as auburn?
No. Auburn is a red shade with brown depth. Chestnut is a brown with a soft red-gold reflect that shows mainly in daylight; indoors it reads as brown.
Why is Violet Beauty #5 listed as US #6?
European and American colour rings number brown shades differently. By the American standard, this shade is #6 Chestnut Brown.
How often do tape-ins need a move-up?
Every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and how you care for it. At the move-up the tapes are removed, re-taped and placed back close to the scalp.
Can I style them with heat?
Yes. The hair can be curled, straightened and waved like your own. Use a heat protectant and keep tools under 450 °F (230 °C), and keep direct heat off the tape tabs.
Will tape-ins damage my natural hair?
Damage usually comes from incorrect application or removal, sections that are too small, or move-ups that are skipped. With professional fitting, regular move-ups and the care routine above, these risks are kept low.
