Description

Chocolate Brown #4 is a rich medium-dark brown with a warm cocoa reflect, equivalent to US colour #4. Indoors it reads as a deep, even brown; in daylight the warmth comes through without turning red or copper. Supplied as 20 tapes per pack in eight lengths from 14" to 28", in Slavic hair with the cuticle intact and aligned.

Who this shade matches

#4 suits natural brunette hair at level 3 to 5, with a warm or neutral undertone. It is one of the easiest shades to blend: the warm reflect softens the line between your own hair and the extension, and the depth matches most medium and dark brunettes without looking heavy.

Check two neighbouring shades before ordering:

  • If your hair looks almost black indoors, Natural Black #1 (US #1B) is the closer match.
  • If your hair turns visibly golden in sunlight, Honey Brown #5.9 (US #10) is two levels lighter and warmer.

The two browns also work together: Chocolate Brown through the base with Honey Brown at the surface and around the face gives a soft brunette balayage with no lightening of your own hair. To confirm your match, photograph your hair outdoors in shade and send it to us on WhatsApp.

How tape-in extensions work

Each tape is a thin weft of hair on a flat adhesive tab. Two tapes are sandwiched around a fine section of your own hair close to the scalp, where they lie flat and are hidden by the hair above. Tape-ins add length and volume across the head with no heat or glue at application, and the tabs are repositioned at each move-up as your hair grows.

We recommend professional installation. Correct section size and placement are what keep tapes comfortable, flat and secure; tapes placed by an untrained hand are the main cause of slipping, tension and breakage.

Wear and care

Move-ups at 6 to 8 weeks, heat under 450 °F (230 °C) with a protectant.

  • First 48 hours: do not wash or wet the hair, so the adhesive can set fully.
  • Washing: sulfate-free shampoo. No toning products are needed for this shade.
  • Conditioner and oils: mid-lengths and ends only, well clear of the tape tabs.
  • Brushing: start at the ends and work upward, holding the hair above the tabs.

Questions about Chocolate Brown #4

Is chocolate brown the same as chestnut brown?

No. Chestnut brown carries a red reflect; chocolate brown is warm-neutral with no visible red. This shade was previously listed as Chestnut Brown; the hair is the same, and the name now describes its tone more accurately.

How often do tape-ins need a move-up?

Every 6 to 8 weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows and how you care for it. At the move-up the tapes are removed, re-taped and placed back close to the scalp.

Can I apply tape-ins myself?

We recommend professional installation. Incorrect sectioning or placement can cause tension on your own hair and make the tapes visible.

Will tape-ins damage my natural hair?

Damage usually comes from incorrect application or removal, sections that are too small, or move-ups that are skipped. With professional fitting, regular move-ups and the care routine above, these risks are kept low.
