Who this shade matches
Cool platinum removes every trace of warmth from the face. Against skin with a golden, olive or deep undertone, an icy white can read as a wig rather than as hair. #12.1 keeps enough gold to sit comfortably against warm complexions while staying at platinum lightness.
It is also the platinum that grows out most quietly. Golden platinum against level 8 or 9 regrowth reads as a gradient; an icy platinum such as #12.2 (US #60A) against the same regrowth reads as a line.
Wear and care
Move-ups at 6 to 8 weeks, heat under 450 °F (230 °C) with a protectant on every pass.
- Toning: violet shampoo sparingly, roughly every fourth wash. Over-toning strips the gold this shade is built around and leaves it looking flat and grey-white.
- Strength: a monthly bond treatment.
- Water: avoid chlorine; rinse straight after any swim.
- Conditioner: mid-lengths and ends only, well clear of the tape tabs.
Questions about Golden Platinum #12.1
Is #613 the same as a neutral platinum?
No. Same lightness, different tone. A neutral platinum reads clean white; #613 keeps a deliberate soft gold.
Will #12.1 turn brassy?
The gold in this shade is deliberate, not brass. Brass is orange coming through under-lifted hair. If the shade shifts orange rather than gold, the cause is water or product build-up, and a clarifying wash addresses it.
Can #613 be toned to a different shade?
A colourist can deposit tone on it, for example to cool it slightly. Lightening it further is not recommended. Speak to the studio before any colour work.
Can I mix #12.1 with another shade?
Yes. Alternating it with Light Beige Blonde #12.4 (US #22) through an install gives soft blonde dimension, which is difficult to achieve with a single flat shade.
